Interesting, that's something to look into.

Perhaps, Safari needs an onload event, which isn't there without auto  
init. Could also be an oversight on my part, but right now I'm too  
tired to think about this.

It's very odd. When I remove the DIV they still don't show. Perhaps  
you could try to make them show up without the Dojo animation first?  
I'm on a PowerPC Mac btw, so it's not related to the chipset.
